Chupacabras (goat-suckers) were first spotted in Puerto Rico and Mexico (that explains the name). Some sientists think that chupacabras are actually types of wild dogs (wolves, foxes, etc.) with a deadly form of mange. Others believe that the wild dogs have been infected by 8-legged mites called Sarcoptes scabiei (which also causes the ichy rash known as scabies on humans).
The reason the "chupacabras" usually attack and eat livestock is because the virus causes the animal to be slow and get tired, so an easy target is a trapped cow.....right? To explain why some people have heard that chupacabras have wings and are deadly to humans, I don't know what to say. Just a bad game of Tellephone.
I belive what the sientists say and you should, too. After all, they are the experts. So, in conclusion, farmers sould keep their livestock well gaurded and shepards should not only watch out for wolves but for chupacabras.
